Born and raised in beautiful Portland, Oregon, I went away to nursing school at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, where I graduated with honors. I have worked as a registered nurse in a variety of settings in Oregon, from Outdoor School for 6th graders, night shift on an intermediate care unit, camp for adults and children with disabilities, and Doernbecher Children's Hospital specialty outpatient clinic. During my first two years as a nurse, I experienced what most nurses report when they first start out: fear, lack of confidence, anxiety and depression, and second thoughts about whether I could handle this line of work. But I was told time and time again that this was an expected side effect, and I just had to put my head down, ignore the alarming symptoms, and everything would magically be better two years later. For a while, I trusted the advice, but most of the time, I felt miserable.

My life took a sudden turn when I was diagnosed with severe Cushing's syndrome (a dangerous hormonal imbalance caused by a tumor) at 24. I was terrified, so many questions ran through my head: How could this happen? Why is this happening to me? And the scariest question of all... Do I have cancer? 

Luckily, the tumor was benign, and I've been on a long and challenging road to discovery since having life-saving surgery. 

That's right, I said "discovery", not "recovery", because there was no going back after that wake-up call from the universe, reminding me that life is delicate. I began to fully realize that there are things that happen to us out of our control, but millions of other moments in life when we make our own choices and our resulting reality. During the time I took off work to rest and heal, I started thinking of better questions: What's most important to me? What makes me feel happy and healthy? What do I need to do to make my life the best it can be? 

It was my answers to these questions that lead me to pursue an advanced education in holistic nurse coaching. I can honestly say through my own life experiences and education that I have discovered the woman I want to be, and I am becoming her. It is my sincere hope that you will give me the opportunity to share this gift with you. Nurse burnout and nurses leaving their positions is at an all time high, and we MUST find a better way to care for ourselves if we want to continue to care for our patients and loved ones. I graduated from the Integrative Nurse Coach Certificate Program, the first and best program to learn the art and science of nurse coaching. Through techniques like guided meditation and awareness practices, motivational interviewing, non-violent communication, goal-setting, and just being a great listener, I work one-on-one with clients to help them identify and achieve their most important ambitions.
