A new Nursing Specialty, Explained

I get asked this question on a daily basis, and I LOVE having the opportunity to be the first person to introduce this amazing specialty. The official definition from the American Holistic Nurses Association states that nurse coaching is "a skilled, purposeful, results-oriented and structured client interaction that is provided by Registered Nurses for the purpose of promoting achievement of client goals. (Dossey, Hess, et. al, 2013)". This is a clear and concise definition, but nurse coaching means more to me...

It is a rare gift to feel completely heard, seen, felt, and not judged by another, to be asked open-ended questions that lead you to dream about new possibilities, to be encouraged and supported every step toward your dreams, all from a highly educated, experienced, holistically-minded registered nurse. A nurse coach, when invested in, is your partner through your health and happiness journey, and helps you to feel your very best. This is the beautiful gift of nurse coaching that I offer to you.

I have chosen to specialize further as a health and wellness coach for those with chronic conditions. This specialty needs way more support than is offered by their busy healthcare team, which I understand well as both a nurse and a patient. It is my aim to help identify strengths and values, help clients take control of their own life story, and start aligning themselves with their biggest dreams and desires, despite what has stood in their way.
